With a goal in stoppage time, Real Madrid managed to beat Elche 3–2 away from home this Tuesday (15) in Matchday 6 of LaLiga. The Merengues, who had opened up a two-goal lead in the first half, faced a scare and nearly stumbled against the league’s bottom-placed team.
The heroic goal was scored by Carlos Espí in the 45th minute of the second half. The home team was on the verge of snatching a draw that would have been heroic.
Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 25th minute of the first half. Arda Güler took a left-footed free-kick from the right side of the attacking half and saw the ball hit the post and deflect off goalkeeper Matías Dituro before going into the net.
Los Merengues extended their lead shortly after, in the 32nd minute. Diomande delivered a low cross from the right, and Mbappé appeared in the box to finish and send the ball into the back of the net.
José Mourinho’s team, however, tempted fate in the second half by failing to push forward and put the game to bed. They saw Elche equalize, and it looked as though the match would end in a draw and a slip-up for Los Merengues.
The Real Madrid team, however, woke up and went in search of the win. In the 45th minute, already into stoppage time, Bellingham played the ball to Mbappé, who squared it to Espí; with the goal wide open, he secured the three points.
