Newcastle agree deal for Manchester City’s Nico Gonzalez

Nico Gonzalez joined Man City from Porto in February 2025 and played 59 times; the deal to take him to Newcastle is set to reach £50m after add-ons; the 24-year-old is Newcastle’s seventh signing of the summer.

The deal for the 24-year-old midfielder is set to reach £50m after add-ons. He will wear the No 6 shirt at St James’ Park. He becomes the fourth senior midfielder to leave City this summer following the departures of RodriBernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders.

Newcastle have signed players exclusively from the continent up to this point in the window, but the club have recognised the need to add some Premier League experience after losing Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier in recent months.

At one stage during the summer he said he wanted to stay at City, but has now chosen to accept Newcastle’s offer. He was an unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday with new head coach Enzo Maresca choosing instead to field center back Marc Guéhi in midfield.
