Greek superstar leaves Milwaukee after years of trade rumors; Bucks receive Tyler Herro and a haul of Draft picks.
Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has finally had his future decided. The power forward was traded by the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat on Monday night (22), according to reports from US media.
As part of the deal, the Heat sent Milwaukee a package featuring guard Tyler Herro, center Kel’el Ware, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, 2026 first-round draft picks (No. 13 overall), 2031 and 2033 first-round picks, along with a 2030 pick swap and a 2033 second-round pick.
Forward Bobby Portis will also be sent by the Bucks to Miami as part of the trade.
Heat President Pat Riley has completed a long-awaited blockbuster signing. Antetokounmpo joins an elite list of marquee Miami additions over the past 30-plus years that includes LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Bosh, Alonzo Mourning, and Jimmy Butler. Riley will pair the two-time NBA MVP and 2021 Finals MVP alongside Bam Adebayo to lead the charge in the Eastern Conference.
Prior to the agreement, the Heat and Boston Celtics were considered the leading candidates to land the two-time NBA MVP. Boston’s offer reportedly included five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown.
Giannis, 31, was still under contract with Milwaukee through the 2026, 27 season. The Greek star struggled with injuries last year, playing in a career-low 36 games in 2025, 26 as the Bucks missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015, 16. Giannis suffered a hyperextended left knee in March and did not return to the court.
In Milwaukee, the superstar put together one of the greatest careers in franchise history. He led the team to an NBA championship in 2021 and departed as the Bucks’ all-time leader in games played (895), points (21,531), rebounds (8,882), assists (4,484), and blocks (1,088).
On the other side of the trade, Tyler Herro joins the Bucks after seven seasons in Miami. The guard averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists across 33 games last season.
Kel’el Ware, 22, recorded career-high numbers last year with 11.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Jaime Jaquez Jr., 25, finished as runner-up in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting, averaging 15.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
Kasparas Jakucionis, 20, averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists during his rookie campaign.
